The Story Behind the Research
Marcus grew up watching his father — a Wan Chai-based solicitor — struggle with erratic work hours and declining health. That sparked something in him. Not abstract interest in productivity theory, but a real question: why do smart, capable people sacrifice their health for results?
After completing his undergraduate degree at HKU in 2010, he spent three years as an HR consultant. But consulting felt disconnected from the actual science. So he pursued formal training in occupational health psychology, then specialized in chronobiology and sleep science at the Hong Kong Sleep Research Centre. That's when things clicked.
His breakthrough came in 2015. He pioneered an energy-mapping methodology that tracks circadian patterns specific to Hong Kong's subtropical climate and the relentless pace of Wan Chai's business culture. This wasn't theoretical — it was built on data from real professionals working real hours in real conditions. The work caught Peak Flow Limited's attention, and he joined as a founding researcher in 2018.
Since then, he's published findings in the Hong Kong Management Review and collaborated with major corporations including HSBC, Deloitte, and various Wan Chai law firms. His approach combines Western performance science with insights from traditional Chinese medicine's understanding of qi flow and seasonal rhythms. Because sustainable high performance isn't about pushing harder — it's about working with your body's natural rhythms, not against them.
What Marcus Specializes In
Deep expertise in helping high-pressure professionals reclaim sustainable performance
Energy Management & Circadian Alignment
Not all hours are created equal. He maps your natural energy patterns and rebuilds your schedule around them — not fighting your biology, but using it.
Performance Scheduling for High-Pressure Environments
Wan Chai's finance, legal, and tech professionals don't have the luxury of standard 9-to-5. He designs schedules that protect focus time while managing unpredictable demands.
Burnout Prevention & Recovery Protocols
Most burnout advice feels generic. He creates personalized recovery frameworks that fit Hong Kong's intensity — because rest isn't one-size-fits-all.
Sleep Science & Subtropical Adaptation
Hong Kong's heat and humidity affect sleep differently than temperate climates. He's studied how this impacts professionals and what actually works here.
Time Blocking & Deep Work Architecture
Theory is easy. Implementation in chaotic environments is hard. He's built frameworks that actually survive contact with back-to-back meetings and urgent requests.
Organizational Culture & Sustainable Performance
Individual optimization only goes so far. He works with teams and organizations to build cultures that value sustainable performance over hero hours.
